According to the National Retail Federation, our fellow Americans will spend $7.1 billion on food for the 4th — with 65.5 percent of the population chowing down at a cookout. While the most money might be spent on meaty main courses in celebration of our nation’s Declaration of Independence, data from Nielsen also declares that last year $116 million was spent on cherries and $83 million on watermelon. And, Nielson further declares that Americans on the 4th freely preferred domestic beer to imported beer — buying 61 million cases of the homegrown brew compared to 10.7 million cases of imported. For sharing all these figures, we salute our friends at StatistaCharts, and we wish everyone a delicious Independence Day.
