Senior writer Michael Langley recently won a cartoon caption contest run by the Chicago Tribune. The challenge was to supply words for an uncationed cartoon showing Shakespeare writing next to a cow that is standing in a puddle of milk.

His winning caption: “Yeah, I guess it is a pretty long soliloquy.”

Michael was up against the Chicago lawyer who’s won The New Yorker’s slightly more prestigious cartoon caption contest four times, plus 385 others who also emailed in. In its ringing endorsement, the Tribune said his caption “strikes us as best.” Great job, Michael. Now get back to work.
