As a marketing communications firm, there is no greater privilege than being at the table with clients who are truly making a difference in the world, and thus being able to make a contribution, however modest, to that positive difference. That is in fact our mission at SullivanPerkins. On Saturday, May 20th, we had the pleasure of attending the inaugural Hooding Ceremony for the first ever graduating class of UNT Dallas College of Law. The event took place in a packed Majestic Theatre (orchestra and both balcony levels), and majestic is in fact not an inappropriate term for the event. In attendance: the 70 or so individuals who had earned Juris Doctor degrees and hundreds of family and friends, along with keynote speaker State Senator Royce West, former State Representative Dan Branch, Judge and Founding Dean Royal Furgeson, UNT System Chancellor Lee Jackson, UNT Dallas President Bob Mong. We were in the second, highest balcony up, as proud as any parent, or perhaps only slightly less so.
In 2012, a stranger named Ellen Pryor (a very distinguished professor of law and academic dean who is also a graduate of our client Ursuline Academy) visited us in our office to talk about creating the identity, website, and all initial marketing materials for a new law school in downtown Dallas. Over subsequent years we did just that — after time spent interviewing and learning from Dean Pryor, Judge Furgeson, Chancellor Jackson, Senator West, and many others. So close was the relationship that our senior account manager for UNT Dallas College of Law, Tricia Magel, was offered and accepted the role of Director of Marketing and Communications for the new law school after it opened in 2014. That’s Tricia on stage at the Majestic, peeking out from behind the curtains stage right, no doubt making sure that all went as according to plan at the May 20th ceremony–a photo we snapped amidst the crowd in the second balcony, just before the soon to graduate students entered in procession to fill their reserved front row seats.
